Thanks to everyone who joined us this weekend at The Beat Goes On, Wandsworth Council’s cultural takeover of the Battersea Power Station. What a brilliant way to celebrate Wandsworth’s incredible year as London Borough of Culture. But it doesn’t end here.

This year has been about shining a spotlight on the events, activities and brilliant days out that make this borough shine — whether you’re visiting London, or you’ve lived here all your life – everyone should have access to the things that make Wandsworth special.

Access to culture, creativity and imagination should start early. Wandsworth Labour will work to foster a love of reading by enrolling every child in our libraries. This will give every child a free book every month until their fifth birthday thanks to our partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

We will ensure all primary school children have access to a reading tablet so books including e-books and audio books to make sure our children can enjoy stories in a way which works for them.

At the heart of this is a simple belief: everyone should have access to the things that make Wandsworth special.

Wandsworth Labour will:

• Introduce the Wandsworth Card, which will unlock discounts for residents at events, gigs, courses and galleries as well as local pubs, bars and restaurants
• Ensure discounted tickets for Access for All members at Country on the Common and Tooting Food Festival, which will become an annual event
• Work with our brilliant partners to offer free taster sessions, including at the Putney School of Art and Design and South Thames College, so you can keep learning new skills or discovering new hobbies at any age.
